2:1 (2 to 1): Bootleg Terms

2:1 / (2 to 1):

2:1 is a term that was used many years ago when most traders traded via Snail Mail. Usually a new trader would contact a more established trader for a B&P trade. Some of the established trader’s did B&P’S as 2:1 trades. 2:1 meant that you would send that trader 2 blank discs for the 1 disc you would get back with a show on it. So if you requested 10 audio shows that were only 1 CD each you would send the other trader 20 blank CDR’S in the sleeves plus the postage. So in essence it would be 2 blanks & postage. The other trader would put your shows on those 10 discs, send them back to you and keep the other 10 blanks for themselves. This practice did not last all that long as many traders saw it as unfair and wrong.
